Chitimba cichlid The Chitimba cichlid (Petrotilapia sp. "chitimba")

The Chitimba cichlid is a striking mbuna cichlid from Lake Malawi, known for its vibrant coloration and active behavior. Males display brilliant blue and yellow patterns, while females show more subdued tones. These hardy fish thrive in rocky aquarium setups with plenty of caves and crevices for territory establishment.

Chitimba cichlids are aggressive feeders and benefit from a varied diet of quality cichlid pellets, algae-based foods, and occasional live or frozen fare. They prefer slightly alkaline water with good filtration and regular maintenance. Best kept in species-specific or compatible mbuna communities, they reach 4-5 inches and require a minimum 75-gallon tank for a small group.

Ideal for experienced cichlid keepers seeking a robust, visually rewarding fish with engaging personality and natural behaviors.
