Haplochromis zebra obliquidens

Haplochromis zebra obliquidens, commonly known as the Zebra Obliquidens or Electric Blue Hap, is a striking cichlid prized for its vibrant coloration and engaging personality. Males display brilliant blue hues with characteristic black vertical stripes, while females present more muted tones.

These cichlids thrive in aquariums of 75 gallons or larger with plenty of rockwork and caves for territorial behavior. They prefer slightly alkaline water with stable parameters and benefit from a well-established tank with moderate to strong filtration. Feed high-quality cichlid pellets supplemented with occasional live or frozen foods.

Haplochromis zebra obliquidens are semi-aggressive and best kept with similarly-sized fish capable of holding their own. Males are particularly territorial during breeding, making single-male setups or species-specific tanks ideal. Water temperature should be maintained between 74–82°F.
