These cichlids thrive in tanks of 55 gallons or larger, preferring rocky environments that mimic their Lake Malawi habitat. They're moderately aggressive and territorial, especially males during breeding. Tank mates should include other robust cichlids of similar size and temperament—avoid smaller fish that may trigger predatory instincts.

Living stone cichlids are opportunistic feeders that eagerly consume quality cichlid pellets, frozen foods, and occasional live offerings. They reach 6–7 inches at maturity and display the most vibrant coloration in well-maintained, stable water conditions.
